Gas Prices Are Killing Our Economy

The documentary film Gasland is an expose of the practice of hydraulic fracturing or fracting by gas companies to drill for natural gas in shale formations deep underground. The method was developed by the company Halliburton. Thousands of gallons of water are driven 8000 feet into the ground. The water in induced with a variety of chemicals. It causes intense pressure breaking up the rock and releasing gas deposits.

Devon has declined 61 percent in New York trading to $46.35 since the fuel set a 2008 high of $13.694 on July 2. Chesapeake tumbled 77 percent to $15.90 and XTO lost 54 percent to $30.52.

Then what happens when this new secular or Islamic dictator is in power? He will not disrupt our oil supply (which is all we really care about), because oil is the only thing that keeps these Middle-East countries from descending back into the Middle Ages. It is their only resource. Did Saddam cut off our oil? Does Iran stop selling us oil, even though they hate our guts? Do they want to lose their billions of dollars in revenue? I don’t think so.

Unfortunately for automobile owners, gas prices traditionally surge in the spring when demand is up. Inevitably the investment in oil will make a buck in a thriving economy.

March madness has arrived with Mardi Gras celebrations, Spring Break parties, a Texas Independence Day parade, and a plethora of Saint Patricks’s Day events.

Why aren’t any of these industries hauled in before congress and made to testify for “price gouging”? Clearly it is not the profits that are the issue, or at least not the profit margins.
